❌ MISTAKE #1: Overloading the dry heat sterilizer chamber.
Tightly packing instruments on the shelves or in kraft bags, and filling the chamber to its limits, obstructs air circulation.
As a result – instruments may remain unsterilized, and there’s an increased risk of the sterilizer breaking down.
✅ CORRECT:
- Make sure to leave space between the instruments;
- Fill kraft bags only up to 2/3 with instruments;
- Do not fill the sterilizer chamber more than 70%.
❌ MISTAKE #2: Sterilizing dirty or wet instruments.
Dirt and moisture render the entire sterilization process ineffective!
Organic residues bake onto the instruments during heating and become even more resistant to treatment.
✅ CORRECT:
Before sterilization, instruments must be disinfected, thoroughly washed, and dried.
❌ MISTAKE #3: Using disinfectant solution with sediment, unusual smell, or color.
Using disinfectant solution that shows signs of degraded quality is dangerous — even if it’s still within its expiration date. Such a solution is already ineffective and fails to provide proper disinfection!
✅ CORRECT:
Always check the condition of the disinfectant before use. If you notice sediment, an unusual odor, or a change in color — dispose of it immediately and replace it with a new solution.
Avoid these mistakes during instrument decontamination and remember: flawless sterilization is the foundation of professional reputation!
