Sterilization by touch or how to work during a blackout?

Constant power outages are not a reason to stop working! We will tell you how to ensure continuous sterilization of instruments even during a blackout.

Important to know:

  • A dry heat sterilizer consumes an average of 0.5-0.7 kW per hour, depending on the model;
  • A full sterilization cycle lasts from 30 to 150 minutes, depending on the selected temperature mode;
  • Interrupting the sterilization cycle, in most cases, makes it invalid.

Our recommendations for uninterrupted operation:

  1. Purchase a charging station or fuel generator of appropriate power (we recommend choosing from 2 kW/h).
  2. Install an uninterruptible power supply to protect against sudden voltage drops.
  3. Plan the sterilization schedule taking into account the power outage schedule.
  4. Keep a supply of sterile instruments in case of a prolonged blackout.

But what to do if the light goes out during sterilization? It’s simple:

  • If the sterilization process is interrupted and the indicators do not change color, this indicates that the sterilization was not successful, so it is necessary to restart the sterilization process after the power supply is restored. It is important that the instruments go through a full sterilization cycle, observing the temperature and time. In this case, there is no need to change the kraft packages to new ones.
  • If the power outage occurred during the dry heat cooling stage, and the indicators on the kraft packages changed color to their characteristic color after sterilization (see the instructions) – do not worry, you do not need to restart the sterilization process.

💡 Professional advice: use additional sterilization indicators for each cycle. This will help you make sure that the process was successful, even if there were power outages.

But remember, your safety and the safety of your customers are above all! Do not neglect the sterilization rules even in today’s difficult conditions.
